Format News about Fast Track Series
After my review of Hard and Fast(Book 2 in this series, review here) we realized in the comment section that it really would be good to know what will happen to our beloved series book-format-wise? So I wrote an Email to Mrs. McCarthy l and got an answer this Morning,. YAY for that!
The next book is called "Fast Finish" and will be published in August 2010- and yes it will be released in Mass Market Paperback. The first to book will be re-released in Mass Market Paperback before. Flat-Out Sexy will be released in June 2010 and Hard and Fast in July 2010. This is the decision of her publisher- the author has no say in decisions like that!!! Erin also assured me that the covers of the first 2 would not be changed because why would you change something sooooo good.
Now I have the problem that I bought the first 2 books for way too much money and they will don’t match the third book in size. I know it’s freaky but I totally hate it when the books don’t match in the bookshelf. There should be some kind of recognition of a series when I look at my full bookcase.
I will think about it for a while because I really love this series. But WTF? Why? But in the end I think I will buy them again.
Anyone else has a problem with the format changing in a series?

I think it is a consipracy of the publishers to get more money out of us!! I hate it when it happens from TPB to MMPB format and the other way around. I "just" bought Flat-Out Sexy damnit, though i would love to read the book I could've waited until next year to buy them back-to-back and save a bundly. I'm just glad I didn't buy Hard And Fast too.
I think publishers have a 101 reasons to go from TPB to MMPB but woth many readers who have a format OCD it is agravating as hell.
I used to get annoyed with size or pb/hb changes in my series, but I think with now having so many that don't "match" I'm ok with it. It kind of gives my book shelves more character :)
excuse the typ-o's woth = with and bundly = bundle
I really hate it when they change formats in a series. Just as you I am a fan of this series and august 2010 (Ryder & Suzanne's story)cannot come fast enough for me! I hope they do not change the concept of the covers, I love these covers. Yes I will buy them in MMPB because I want the same format in a series, but damnit, I already have those first two in TPB, now I will make those my reading copies, sigh...
Very very annoying!
Susi are you counting down with me till august 2010? LOL...
@Leontine I'm so with you. It's really unfair.
@Mandi I hope I will learn that too.
@Marissa I hope they don't change the cover art. I love those covers. I can't put them on my blog often enough. I really have to frame these books. And I'm counting! We need a widget! *Note to self: Make a Fast Finish widget*
it IS annoying when there's a change in format but i think i just gave up trying to harmonize my books a while ago. Now i just go with it...sometimes i still have the urge to by books i already have in other format just so it looks pretty lol
There IS one thing i don't like...HARD COVERS, the dust jacket is not resistent enough, it always tears, and i'm a book freak i hate it when it tears. arghhh
I'm with you hon I don't like it when the books of a series don't match up in size like that. I like them to look nice and uniform on my shelf. These look really good I haven't tried them before but the covers caught my attention right off! LOL I'll have to give these a try! :)
@pattepoilue I so hate hardcovers. I alway leave this fucking dust thing at home and when I finished the book I have to search for it. Someone always puts t somewhere safe and doesn't tell me but I won't tell who...LOL
@JennJ I really love these books. Very, very good!
I have the first of this series in the stacks and must read it soon. I just read your review - another really great one!
As for size changes in books. I have so many tumbling off the shelves it has become irrelevant at this point. Plus, I kind of like the ecclectic state of my shelves. lol - yikes!!
Much like you, I hate it when books don't match, format-wise. My bookshelves are ruthlessly organized alphabetically by author (series & trilogies are grouped together) and by size/format. Hardbacks go with hardbacks. Paperbacks go with paperbacks. They're all arranged largest to smallest.
I hate that publishers dictate covers and book formats. You should have seen the tantrum I threw when I found out an anthology was Hardback WTF? I won't go into my othe tanturm when I realized my Barnes and Noble overcharged me by $6.00 *shakes head*
I'm with you - your books should match. Or at least re-release the earlier bks with the new look.
@Lea Thanks and perhaps you are right. Will decide when the first two are re-released.
@Mamma Kitty LOL. I do this sorting thing to. I also have different shelves for the German and the English books. And they are sorted after the genre too.
@Smokinhotbooks 6$? Wow I would have a murder tantrum. I'm happy that amazon.de has this guaranty that they give you the difference of what you paid for a book when you find it in the next three month cheaper at another store. I use that very often.LOL
I'm with Mama Kitty in that my hardcovers, trade paper, and paperbacks are in separate bookcases, so I sometimes have to break up the series. Don't like it when my series don't match!
And have to agree that I hope they don't change these covers, as they are definitely a work of art! :D
I try to buy the same format. If a series changes from paperbacks to hardcovers, I tend to have the patience to wait for some months for the paperback edition. But there are a couple of series that got me hooked so well I just had to start buying hardcovers (Fever series by KMM and Sharing Knife series by Lois McMaster Bujold). It isn't a pretty sight - those first paperbacks sitting beside the new hardcovers :/
@Alexia I hate to break a series so my bookshelves look a little mixed up. I sometimes just can't wait to get the book so I buy the hardcover and than I buy the paperback when it's released. It's like Marissa said. I've got good looking copies and reading copies.
@Maija Here in Germany the Hardcovers are so expensive sometimes and they don't get much cheaper cuz we've got the "book price control". Example: the new Frank Schätzing "Limit" costs 26€(that are ca. 39$). Definitely too much for a book IMO.
Hardcovers are expensive here too. (These numbers are based on romance books I've bought ->) You have to pay 15-30€ for a hardcover (vs. 7-9€ for US paperbacks, 10-12€ for UK paperbacks, 12-20€ for trades). Therefore I've started to buy all my books from Book Depository UK. I can get romance books for 3-6€ and it doesn't take long to have them (BD delivers them in one week).
I prefer the books to be all the same format - I hate having a few paperbacks then hardcovers - it makes it hard to fit other books on top of them when I'm trying to cram them onto my overstuffed shelves!
