Review: Street Magic by Caitlin Kittredge

Description:
Her name is Pete Caldecott. She was just sixteen when she met Jack Winter, a gorgeous, larger-than-life mage who thrilled her with his witchcraft. Then a spirit Jack summoned killed him before Pete’s eyes—or so she thought. Now a detective, Pete is investigating the case of a young girl kidnapped from the streets of London. A tipster’s chilling prediction has led police directly to the child…but when Pete meets the informant, she’s shocked to learn he is none other than Jack. Strung out on heroin, Jack a shadow of his former self. But he’s able to tell Pete exactly where Bridget’s kidnappers are hiding: in the supernatural shadow-world of the fey. Even though she’s spent years disavowing the supernatural, Pete follows Jack into the invisible fey underworld, where she hopes to discover the truth about what happened to Bridget—and what happened to Jack on that dark day so long ago… (by goodreads.com)

Review:
Pete and Jack are a strange team. In the beginning they hate each other but they have to work together to stop a monster destroying the live of innocent children. They both have things in their past, memories they need to process to forget all the accusations and misunderstandings between them. But Jack is a real strange guy. He is full of hate and seems to have lost all his will of life. Pete has a whole bunch of own burdens but she's still smart-mouthed and willing to kick ass for reaching her goals. I liked the way the two of them worked together without wanting too. The world building of this story is great. The way Kitredge describes London with all the dark alleys and shabby apartments- the atmosphere is intoxicating. I can't wait to read the next installment "Demon Bound".

Monochrome Superheroes?

This is the first book in the Icarus Project Series by Jackie Kessler & Caitlin Kittredge.
In this worlds the Extrahumans(people with extraordinary superpowers) and the normal population live besides each other with more or less acceptance on both sides. It's all about the definition of Good and Bad, Black and White, Ying and Yang. Is there always a straight line deviding them or can you be caught in the middle. Which one is the Good site and who's Bad?

"Black and White" by Jackie Kessler & Caitlin Kittredge

Description:
Once best friends at an elite superhero training academy, Callie
Bradford--code name Iridium--and Joannie Greene--code name Jet--are now
mortal enemies. Jet is a by-the-book hero, using her Shadow power to protect
the citizens of New Chicago. Iridium, with her mastery of Light, runs the
city's underworld. For years the two have played a dangerous game of cat and mouse.
But now playtime's over. A looming evil threatens both them and the world
they share. As Jet works with a "normal" man who has an extraordinary
ability to make her weak in the knees, Iridium teams with a mysterious
vigilante called Taser. Both Jet and Iridium are convinced that the other
woman is the key to a catastrophe of apocalyptic proportions.
And one of them is right. (by goodreads.com)

Review:
Before I read this book I couldn't imagine how great a book written by two authors can be. I love the way they split the story between Jet and Iridium. In the beginning it's a little confusing to read the story from two points of view, but it makes the whole story more exciting and fascinating. I also love the way they reveal the history of both heroines along the storyline. It keeps you in the dark and you want to now what happened to them. I was unable to put the book away. Just brilliant.

Shifter Series by Rachel Vincent

Stray

Description:
I look like an all-American grad student. But I am a werecat, a shape-shifter, and I live in two worlds.
Despite reservations from my family and my Pride, I escaped the pressure to continue my species and carved out a normal life for myself. Until the night a Stray attacked.
I'd been warned about Strays: werecats without a Pride, constantly on the lookout for someone like me: attractive, female and fertile. I fought him off, but then learned two of my fellow tabbies had disappeared.
This brush with danger was all my Pride needed to summon me back for my own protection. Yeah, right. But I'm no meek kitty. I'll take on whatever and whoever I have to in order to find my friends. Watch out, Strays cause I got claws, and I'm not afraid to use them. (by goodreads.com)

Review:
It's a great story about grad student Faythe and her Pride of werecats. I loved the world building and the whole way Vincent describes the structure of the Prides and their interactions. My only problem with this book was with Faythe's behavior. She tells us she's in love with Andrew and then she forgets him after one day and hops in the bed of another man. Really? There a few other things she does or says that I can't follow but who knows what it's like to be a werecat.

Rogue

Description:
Cats don't always land on their feet.
I know that better than most. Since rejoining the Pride, I've made big decisions and even bigger mistakes: the kind paid for with innocent lives. As the first and only female enforcer, I have plenty to prove to my father, the Pride and myself. And with murdered toms turning up in our territory, I'm working harder than ever, though I always find the energy for a little after-hours recreation with Marc, my partner both on and off duty.

But not all my mistakes are behind me. We're beginning to suspect that the dead are connected to a rash of missing human women and that they can all be laid at my feet—two or four, take your pick. And one horrible indiscretion may yet cost me more than I can bear. (by goodreads.com)

Review:
This is the second book in the Shifter Series and I liked reading it. But when I think about the story now I'm not so sure what I should make of it. In retrospective I can't understand why Faythe is lying to her family and friends and then she is grumpy when they are disappointed with her. But I think we are all just human and so is Faythe. Perhaps I like her because she has flaws and isn't the perfect little heroine.

Pride

Description:
I'm on trial for my life. Falsely accused of infecting my human ex-boyfriend—and killing him to cover up the crime. Infecting a human is one of three capital offenses recognized by the Pride—along with murder and disclosure of our existence to a human. I'm two for three. A goner. Now we've discovered a rogue stray terrorizing the mountainside, hunting a wild teenage tabbycat. It's up to us to find and stop him before a human discovers us. With my lover Marc's help, I think I can protect the vulnerable girl from both the ambitious rogue and the scheming of the territorial council. If I survive my own trial… (by goodreads.com)

Review:
The third book of the Shifter Series is the best in my opinion. The story is frustrating with this whole trial and the injustice of it. But the world isn't always fair and I think Vincent shows that really good in her book. But the whole Marc incident nearly took my breath away. That's really gruesome and I don't like it. But again life is no picnic. after all it's a good book and I couldn't stop reading it. Looking forward to Book No 4.

Geek Generation 2.0 & geeky Needlework

Found a nice article about modern Star Trek fans and what to do to make your kids real Trekkies:
http://bit.ly/16m9SE

It's total hilarious and I have to admit some things on that list have found a way in my life(even without kids). I'm just sorry that I don't drive so much :-(

I also found two very compassionate fan declarations for Brent Spiner and LeVar Burton.

This I found at:
http://bit.ly/QjOT0

There are also a few other pictures of comparable beautiful pieces of art.

For my feminine site I have to say I'm a little jealous that the only thing I could manage with a needle is attaching a button and that only for a short time.

Amazon and the loveliness of waiting

I ordered "Black & White" by Jackie Kessler & Caitlin Kittredge and "Street Magic" by Caitlin Kittredge today. Release date for both was 02.June and I have to wait 2-3 weeks for them. I don't understand what amazon.de does to deliver them. Perhaps they take a backpack and hitchhike to me or they use a homing pigeon. Or they sent a snail in their stock to get the books and now wait for her to come back. I can think of few other reasons but I hate it. I want the books now.
But I will think happy thoughts and I should enjoy my many moments of anticipation.

"Succubus Heat" by Richelle Mead

After endless waiting, thanks to Amazon.de, I finally got my copy of "Succubus Heat". I now understand why Georgina only read 5 pages a day of Seth' new book, 'cause I only had one day first reading experience and now I'm rueful that it didn't last longer. :-(

Description:
Georgina Kincaid has been a bad, bad succubus? Which should be a good thing. But lately, thanks to her foul mood over breaking up with bestselling writer Seth Mortensen, she's been so wicked that Seattle's über-demon Jerome, decides to "outsource" Georgina to a rival- and have her spy for him in the process.

Being exiled to the frozen north- okay, Vancouver- and leaving Seth in the cozy clutches of his new girlfriend is unpleasant enough. Then Jerome is kidnapped, and all immortals under his control mysteriously lose their powers. One bright spot: with her life-sucking ability gone, there's nothing to keep Georgina from getting down and dirty with Seth- nothing apart from his girlfriend that is. Now, as the supernatural population starts turning on itself, a newly mortal Georgina must rescue her boss and figure out who's been playing them- or all hell will break loose? (by goodreads.com)

Review:
If have to take back all I said in the Storm Born review: I so love the Succubus Series.
This book is really great. Like always Georgina gets herself in the middle of disaster. She is ordered to spy for Jerome but she finds herself trying to rescue him. In the meantime she has to sort out all kind of emotional problems and heartbreaks. The story is wonderful from the beginning and shows us how straining immortal live, or momentarily mortal live, can be. It's very emotional and also funny. Can't wait for what's happening next to our dearest succubus.

Review Marathon & hairy 3D-Puzzles

Just thought I should update a few books I read recently. But there was the big question:
Should I take all?
I decided to take only the good ones because my time isn't endless. The rest can be found on my goodreads-account.

Just found a funny picture of last Christmas. We were all occupied with a 3D-Puzzle of Neuschwanstein Castle.
After sorting all the tiles on the floor our little Miss Sunshine, Yoko, found a perfect and nearly fitting place for a little nap. But her little throne only lasted 5 minutes before the inevitable self destruction.

Review: Storm Born by Richelle Mead

Just typical. No love life to speak of for months, then all at once, every horny creature in the Otherworld wants to get in your pants...
Eugenie Markham is a powerful shaman who does a brisk trade banishing spirits and fey who cross into the mortal world. Mercenary, yes, but a girl's got to eat. Her most recent case, however, is enough to ruin her appetite. Hired to find a teenager who has been taken to the Otherworld, Eugenie comes face to face with a startling prophecy--one that uncovers dark secrets about her past and claims that Eugenie's first-born will threaten the future of the world as she knows it.
Now Eugenie is a hot target for every ambitious demon and Otherworldy ne'er-do-well, and the ones who don't want to knock her up want her dead. Eugenie handles a Glock as smoothly as she wields a wand, but she needs some formidable allies for a job like this. She finds them in Dorian, a seductive fairy king with a taste for bondage, and Kiyo, a gorgeous shape-shifter who redefines animal attraction. But with enemies growing bolder and time running out, Eugenie realizes that the greatest danger is yet to come, and it lies in the dark powers that are stirring to life within her...(by goodreads.com)

Review:
I liked Mead's Succubus Series but I love this one. The world is powerful described and intoxicating from the beginning. It's a mix of many things: magic, fae, ghosts, shifter and many things more. And on top of all there is Eugenie, a shaman with a little extra abilities. The whole story is full of action, love(sometimes kinky) and intrigue. Great book. Can't wait to read Thorn Queen.

Review:
I loved this story and it is very addictive. The book is a good mix of funny conversations (I want to have my my own Giguhl aka Mr. Giggles), emotional situations and action scenes. The characters are brilliant and the dialogues are perfect with the right amount of TV-shopping and Jerry Springer.
I totally want to read more about this redhead.

Short-Review: Allie Beckstrom Series by Devon Monk

Magic to the Bone

Using magic means it uses you back - and every spell exacts a price from the user. Some people, however, get out of it by Offloading the cost of magic onto an innocent, then Allison Beckstrom's job is to identify the spell-caster.
Allie would rather live a hand-to-mouth existence than accept the family fortune and the strings that come with it, but when she finds a boy dying from a magical Offload that has her father's signature all over it she is thrown back into the world of his black magic. (by goodreads.com)

Review:
This book captivated me from the beginning. Allie is a heroine with a little memory problem. She is very forthcoming and has serious trust issues. Despite these facts she is a fascinating character and from the start I kind of bonded with her. The story is fast paced and addicting. I read this book in one long session/night and I have to go to the bookstore and buy book two the next morning.

Magic in the Blood

Working as a Hound—tracing illegal spells back to their casters—has taken its toll on Allison Beckstrom. But even though magic has given her migraines and stolen her recent memory, Allie isn’t about to quit.
Then the police’s magic enforcement division asks her to consult on a missing persons case. But what seems to be a straightforward job turns out to be anything but, as Allie finds herself drawn into the underworld of criminals, ghosts, and blood magic.(by goodreads.com)

Review:
Fantastic story and great heroine. The story is fast-paced and intoxicating. I had no chance to put the book down. But I have to say I hate it when the book has a cliffhanger at the end (only because my curiosity will kill me before the next book is out).
