A (late) winner and a look at my Precious!

Hey everyone! I'm so embarrassed to admit it but my google calendar failed me. I totally forgot the winner of the Stepanie Julian giveaway last week. Time is so not my friend at the moment. I hope you can forgive me. So without further blabla here is the winner of Size Matters....

~*~*~drumroll~*~*~

JenM

Congrats hon! I will email you ASAP!

On other news I bought an ereader! *squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
Actually I bought it 2 weeks ago but I was too lazy took a pic of it before and I thought to make it up to you I will do now. I never thought I would get one before Xmas but my mom thought I could use some vacation money and we didn't have time for a vacay so I invested in reading relaxation. *g*
Ereader and my Maneki Neko =)
It was a real good bargain too. I got it in a bookstore for 99€. First time ever I saw a new one for under 100€ here in Germany and I actually always wanted a Sony. I would have preferred the 505 but those aren't on the market here any longer so I took the PRS 300 Pocket Edition. I totally love it. It so much better than the smartphone and I can actually read outside in the sun too without looking like a madwoman for shielding the display from the sun.

LOL I still haven't decided on a name but I'm sure it's a girl. I would laugh at every guy who wears violet so I couldn't give it a male name. I'm tending to Cat cuz the netbook is Bones but perhaps it will confuse the Cat or me or BF so I'm unsure. LOL

I also got some wonderful books:

I won Touched by an Alien by Gini Koch at Stella Ex Libris and the rest is for review. I also actually bought 2 books in my vacay. The first 2 books I bought in over 2 months. *yay* I bought them in a bookstore and totally on impulse. But I'm nearly done with first:

So as you can see I have some reading to do. *huge grin*
Hope you're all having a great weekend.

Review: Anytime Darlin' by Julia Rachel Barrett

Descritpion:
Paramedic Jake McKenna drops to his knees beside the young woman. Beaten, starved, she's barely breathing, burning with fever. He stabilizes her, but when she opens her green eyes and stares, panic-stricken, into his, he realizes this is only the beginning of their relationship.

Devlin Barre has been through hell. If her uncle finds her, she's dead. When she looks into the warm brown eyes of the paramedic, she knows deep in her bones she can trust this man with her life. Devlin and Jake grow close, but, fearful of commitment, Devlin runs off to rebuild her life, leaving Jake heartbroken.

Five years later, Jake and Devlin meet again. Neither has forgotten a single detail of their time together. Both harbor the secret hope that they can begin again--this time, for keeps. But Devlin isn't the only person who ran off. Her uncle still waits for the right opportunity to get the one person who got away.

Note: This book contains rape of the heroine.

Review:
After reading the blurb for this book I had to swallow real hard. I wasn't sure if I would be up for this. I'm not  at all fond of rape in books. I hate when authors use this as a way to make their heroine more vulnerable. It is, at least for me, not a topic that should be talked about lightly. It's something that will influence you and your life severely and it's nothing you can just forget or ignore easily. That being said I have to say it's the first book I ever read about that topic that didn't made me hate it. Julia handled this topic with so much care and thoughtfulness, it was bearable for me to read about it. Yes, It broke my heart and made me cry but I found it was handled in away that me believe it's real- with all the pain, hurt and humilation it involves. I don't think this topic should be banned from books and  Anytime Darlin' showed me that there are books out there who do it right.

Jake is a wonderful character. He's working as a paramedic but he's a cowboy at heart. He always helped out on his father's ranch and he wants to have one for himself in the future too. He loves his family and always has an open ear for them when they need him. He's caring, funny and has a dirty side, too. For me he is a dream come true. I love when a man is more than just sex-o- stick. Of course I know to appreciate a sex-on-stick man, no worries I'm still a red-blooded woman, but I think you need some one you can trust completely, someone you just want to tell everything no matter what. Jake is one of those men. He eriadtes calmness and reassurance- he's a place of peace for Dev.

Devlin's life is shattered and lays in pieces in front of her. When the paramedics find her in the Kmart she nearly gave up life. Until she saw Jake. She doesn't know why but she feels  safe with him- like nothing can touch her. He gives her the hope and safety she needs to give her the strength to survive. I loved  reading about her journey even though it was a cruel and sad one. I admired her strength and how she tried to stand on her own feet. She's a survivor and I'm sure she will give hope to other woman in this situation.

When these two meet again after 5 years without one single word the air between them sizzles.  They can't keep their hands off each other and wow they really know how to use their creativity. It gave  the whole book a lighter touch and finally satisfied my need to see these two being happy.
 I enjoyed the way Julia also included the lives of the side-characters in her story. They all were unique in their own way and they just fit in. I loved the group dynamic this created and I caught myself wanting to be part of such a close knitted group of friends.

At the end of the book I could have lived without one scene but I'm never a fan of seeing something through the bad guy's eyes. It's always so weird and I don't really like to read the twisted thoughts of a maniac. Yes I am a scaredy cat when it comes to books.

As you perhaps noticed I really did like this book. It was a wonderful emotional read- a rollercoaster ride that will take you from heartbreakingly sad to nearly high of joy. Anytime Darlin' made me feel and that's one of the things I love most about books. Julia's writing drew me in completely and I couldn't put this book down. I have already spent hours discussing this book and it still hasn't let go of me. Definitely a keeper on the top of my shelf.

Review: The Road to Shanhasson by Joely Sue Burkhart

Description:
The long awaited sequel to Joely Sue Burkhart's first Shanhasson novel, The Rose of Shanhasson, is finally here. The Road to Shanhasson is the second in the "Blood and Shadows" series, and continues the breathtaking story of Shannari, rightful queen of the Green Lands.

Shannari is about to be made the Khul’lanna of the Plains, wife to the Khul, leader of the 9 camps of the Sha’Kae al’Dan people. Unusual in the land of her birth for her skills as a warrior and prized as the rightful ruler of the Green Lands before being stolen away by Rhaekar, the Khul of the Sha'Kae al'Dan, Shannari is as foreign to these people as they are to her.

Shannari has admitted her love for Rhaekar, and, reluctantly, that she also loves Gregar, the Shadowed man who, along with the other eight Blood guards, protects Rhaekar from danger. Rhaekar, far from being angered by her love for another man, is man enough to give her what she wants, and determines that Gregar shall be her co-mate.

Some of her new people welcome Shannari, but others are angry that a hated Outlander is to become their new queen. Controversy and danger swirls around Shannari and the men she loves, threatening to tear apart the camps. Shannari works with Rhaekar, Gregar, and some new allies to bring peace to the camps, but she forgets that Theo, the current ruler of the Green Lands, will stop at nothing to debase and destroy her, and his bloody pact with Lygon, the god of Shadow, will bring Shannari to her knees.

Review:
I already read this book twice and it really deserves a full length review. I don't know why but it seems I can't bring my thoughts onto the screen after the first read of Joely's books or perhaps it's just an excuse to read them again. I won't tell. The first thing I have to say is that I completely adore this cover. It's gorgeous and it really reflects the book. It always distracts me and I can't wait to get a print copy in my hand. Joely already knows that because I'm stalking her with my inquiries about the print release.

The Road to Shanhasson is book 2 In the Blood and Shadows trilogy and it brings us back to the world of the Sha’Kae al’Dan. I still love this world Shannari, Rhaekar and Gregar live in. I'm still in awe how different it is and I sometimes catch myself thinking of someone as my na'lanna. Joely put so much love in creating this world, you can feel it with every chapter you read. This world just grabbed my heart and I can't seem to let it go. Yes this world is brutal and full of violence but you also find total love and utter adoration and trust in it. It's balanced and it never makes you feel overwhelmed with one or the other.

Shannari is getting stronger in this book. She still is not 100 percent sure she fits into the lifestyle of the Sha’Kae al’Dan but she starts to feel more at home. I loved to see her still blush when someone made a naughty comment but she learns fast and we now finally see her teasing back. Rhaekar is still the mighty warrior and powerful Khul of the Nine Camps. He's strong, stubborn but also totally smitten. He just can't deny Shannari anything not even the things she herself can't admit to want. He still pushes her and tramples one of her boundaries after the next. He wants her to accept what she is and that it's not wrong to love and to enjoy life.

And then we have Gregar. *insert dreamy sigh* I still adore him. I would have never thought that such a wicked character could conquer my heart but he did from the start. In The Road to Shanhasson we learn more about him and his thoughts. I loved to see him worry and even more to see his adoration for Shannari. He really treats her like the most precious egg in the world (outside of the blankets *wink*). I think his appeal is a combination of both- to see his softer and his wicked side.

Many things happen in this novel and I'm not at all happy about all of them. *pouts* I can't tell you why but this book made me cry. I know it was bound to happen but still it broke my heart. We live through many ups and downs with Shannari and meet some interesting new characters who make room for many naughty possibilities. The plot is engaging from the start, never let me release my breath and left me wanting more at the end. Joely has a talent for making the story flow just exactly right. It's hard to explain but everything just fits together and makes this book a round thing.

The Road to Shanhasson is a wonderful Fantasy Romance which does everything right. I loved the story, the characters and the wonderful narration. This book broke my heart and put the pieces back together and left me with a warm feeling deep inside. I can't say often enough how wonderful Joely's books are and again I'm sitting here craving more. Highly recommended to all romance readers.

The Road to Shanhasson is a wonderful and unique Fantasy Romance with wicked warriors, a heartbreaking lovestory and an engaging plot.

A winner and an International Survey!

We have a winner of the Keta Diablo Blog Tour stop here. The lucky new owner of a digital copy of Where the Rain is Made is
~*~*~drumroll~*~*~

Camille

I will send your Email addy to Keta now!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I would like to hear your opinion about something. The last 2 days I read Anytime Darlin' by Julia Rachel Barrett. I completely adored this book- it's just wonderful (review will be up later today or tomorrow).
But there is a thing I noticed before I even started it. I read a review and the reviewer found something "creepy" and I didn't get why. So let me explain first: Devlin, the heroine meets the hero for the first time at the age of 17, nearly 18. Jake is 24 at that point and these two fell in love without telling each other. They didn't do anything more than holding each others hands and one little tiny kiss like you would kiss your brother. 5 years later they get together.
So this other reviewer felt uncomfortable because Devlin was actually still a minor and Jake was 24. So anyone else making this face O_o now? Perhaps it's a European thing but this is totally legal here and I don't think anyone would ever look strange at this couple here. Okay it would a difference if Jake would be 38 or even really creepy if he were 50 but 24? Is that really too old for her? I for myself always looked for older men mostly because the boys my age were always too immature for my taste. I got together with BF at 17 and he was already 20 at that point.
I don't want to make anyone's opinion wrong here I'm actually just interested in knowing how you would look at such a pair.
Do you think 17 is old enough to have a relationship with a 24 year old?
Where would you draw the line of being too young?
Blogtour Where the Rain is Made by Keta Diablo + Giveaway
Welcome to the blog tour for Where The Rain Is Made. Keta and I are glad you stopped by.
Susi: How did you start your writing career?
Keta: The first book I wrote was a sensual historical based on a real-life event in my family history. Not too long after that first book I began writing erotic romance and Gay fiction. Several years ago I wrote an erotic fantasy romance called Dust and Moonlight and I really enjoyed writing that genre too. I hope to do another fantasy/time travel one day.
More information about Dust and Moonlight (Amazon Kindle) here.
Susi: How do you describe your writing style?
Keta: I think I’m a fairly simple writer. I try not to get too verbose, and I think I probably talk very similar to how I write. And I ask a lot of questions of my characters, as I do in life. My brothers said I should have been a lawyer.
Susi: Tell us about your current release.
Keta: Thank you for asking about Where The Rain Is Made. My youngest son is responsible for the inspiration behind the book. About six years ago he took a keen interest in American history, particularly Native American history. I can’t tell you the number of hours we spent at the library checking out books and reading about all the different tribes. For some reason, he loved the history on the Dog Soldiers and so we accumulated a lot of documents, research articles, etc. About a year later, his reading interests shifted, and here I was with all this information about the Cheyenne. It made sense that I would write a book about the Dog Soldiers.
Susi: Tell us about your favorite character from your books.
Keta: That’s like asking me to name my favorite child – lol. I really enjoyed writing Decadent Deceptions, a historical erotic romance with intrigue and suspense. And I loved both of the characters from this book, Olivia and Morgan. But I really think Where The Rain Is Made is my favorite story as far as plot and characters. It’s so much fun when you have one character from the present and one from the past. The contrasts or differences in how they live is always fun to explore.
About Where The Rain Is Made:
A decadent savage has captured Francesca DuVall and her brother, Marsh. Now she must spend every waking moment planning an escape. However, she didn’t count on the powerful draw of desire interfering with her scheme in the camp of the brutal Cheyenne dog soldiers.
:
Ethan Gray is a curator at a national museum . . . most of the time, but when he travels through time to help his beloved People he becomes Meko, leader of the most revered and feared tribe of the plains.
Although their worlds are decades apart Meko can’t resist the dark beauty he kidnapped during a raid. He has many battles to fight but none he wants to win more than the one that will capture Cesca’s heart forever. From the windswept plains of Colorado and the harsh life of a Dog Soldier to the placid life of a curator their love was fueled by passion and kindled by destiny.
You can find out more about Where The Rain Is Made by visiting the publisher’s site, Decadent Publishing.
You can also read Chapter One and part of Chapter Two here.
Keta is very active on Twitter and would love to have you follow her: @ketadiablo.
My thoughts about Where the Rain is Made:
I loved the setting- it was really refreshing to read about something else. For me as a European, my knowledge about Cheyenne history is not as wide as I wish it would be. We heard about all this in school but not nearly enough. Okay I admit I found all the different names confusing and I'm not sure why some Cheyenne names where in English and some in their tongue but I'm not a pro in those things at all so I won't judge it.
Cesca is a complicated woman. I admit at times I really couldn't stand her at all and other times I wanted to cheer for her. Sometimes she was so wise and at other times she was just wrong.
Meko is also not easy to describe either. He has so many facets and I don't think I understood him. Perhaps the Cheyenne way of life is too far away for me but he made me angry so often.
The love story in Where the Rain is Made took me by surprise. I couldn't really say since which point they were in love and even less why all of a sudden they had these feelings. Perhaps it was because I didn't understood the characters as much as I would have liked to but their relationship really left me cold.
The plot was full of action and brutal violence and this book is for sure not for the faint of heart. Things happen I usually don't like to read about, more than one thing to be honest. I won't tell you much about this but I think everything has it's own right to be in the book. The history of the Native American tells us that there were many brutal things and it would have been wrong to paint those years in a better less violent light because after all it was not like this.
For everyone who always wanted to learn more about the history of the Cheyenne go and get your copy. You will get a deep and thorough view into their lives.
Guestpost and Giveaway with Author Stephanie Julian
I'm very happy to have Author Stephanie Julian here today. Her new novel, Size Matters (you can read my review here) was released yesterday and she is here to celebrate her new release and she will tell us how she started to plot her new series The Fringe. Be sure to check out the end of the post for a chance to win her new novel.
Hi, I'm Stephanie Julian and I'm a History Channel and National Geographic Channel junkie.
If there's a documentary about vampires, werewolves, weird sexual practices of the Egyptians, anything about the Etruscans or the Romans, I'm there. Throw in the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot and now we have a party. I can sit for hours on a rainy Saturday afternoon and devour Mayan 2012 prophecies or Stonehedge theories.
I can pick out Erich von Däniken from a crowd of talking heads and I have a very weird crush on Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, who's developed something of a cult following after his appearance on the series "Ancient Aliens" on the History Channel.
Know what the Antikythera device is? I do. (Don't? Go here.)  How about a Baghdad Battery?
I've always been fascinated by cryptozoology and what I consider "alternate" archeology. I love books, such as David Hatcher Childress' Lost Cities series, because they ask "What if?"
It's a question writers ask every time they start a story. What if my heroine does this, then what? What if my hero does that, then what?
What if I write a story about Bigfoot?
I honestly don't remember how I came up with the exact story idea for "Sizes Matters." I only know that when I started to write it, I thought, "You're nuts. How they hell are you going to make this work?"
Humorously, that's how.
Have no fear, there's a hunky hero. Tim would make any red-blooded female pant. He's handsome, hunky, and oh, so hot. And tall. Almost seven feet tall.
There's also a feisty heroine, Carrie, who has a knack for digging out a story, even after she's crashed into a tree on a snowy road and wakes up naked in bed with a hot guy.
What does this all have to do with Bigfoot?
Well, that's the "What if" of the story.
And if you want to know the rest of that questions, you'll have to read the book.
About the Author:
Stephanie Julian is the author of the Magical Seduction, Lucani Lovers and The Fringe series from Ellora’s Cave and the upcoming Forgotten Goddess series from Sourcebooks Casablanca. A former reporter for a daily newspaper, she enjoys making up stories much more than writing about real life. She’s happily married to a Springsteen fanatic and is the mother of two sons who love her even when they don’t have any clean clothes and dinner is a bowl of cereal.
About the Book:
Carrie Benton's got the best job in the world working as a reporter for the Weekly News Journal. Chupacabra picnicking at the Jersey shore? Check. Aliens in the White House? Absolutely. Bigfoot stalking the forests of northern Pennsylvania? Well, okay... but Bigfoot is so Left Coast.
Tim Sattizahn can't believe his luck. The six-foot redhead who crashed into his forest during a snowstorm is gorgeous, funny and hot for him. Everything would be perfect except for the fact that she's looking for Bigfoot.
And, unfortunately for Tim, she's found him...
Review:
Wow...this book was something special. It took me completely by surprise. I knew I would like it like I did every other book written by Ms Julian but I wasn't prepared for this. You ask why? I finished a book yesterday at 12:30 AM and was a bit giddy and couldn't sleep. So I thought read a bit of this book before sleep and yes I did find sleep after I finished it. I couldn't stop. My eyes dropped close once or twice but I had to finish it.
I won't tell you anything about the story itself. It's a novella and I always feel like giving away too much if I tell anything. Carrie is an intelligent and independent woman. She works as a reporter for a magazine with lets say not much credibility. They bring news about things like alien abductions and Big Foot news. She doesn't see herself so much as a reporter in the common says but more as an actual writer. With her stories she gives the reader a way to escape the real world and just be entertained for a short while. She loves her job and no, she doesn't believe in all the crazy stuff she writes about. She has a temper and I loved every second of it. She is funny, witty and also very comfortable with herself. She likes herself and I think that's one of the reason I liked her ASAP too.
We have on the other hand Tim. He's the mysterious guy living in the middle of nowhere. He has his own company and usually stays alone. He has some issues with himself (I can't tell you more about that though) and thinks he's too big and some other things. I have to say I highly disagree. OMG I love the big guys and yes I know that sounds dirty. But I mean that for real. With myself being really tall it's always good to see a guy being bigger. And seriously, who wants to have such a slim guy? Not me, only makes me feel fat. LOL So yes I really liked Tim and his being so gentlemanly all the time without being shy. He knows how to grab his chances even though he has some reservations. He is one lovely man. *dreams*
The sex in Size Matters is scorching. I rediscover every time I read one of Ms Julian's books that I completely adore how much compassion and eroticism she brings into her scenes. It's not only the sex, it's the way she sets the stage and makes everything work out- just fascinating and totally sexy.
I can only say Size Matters is a fabulous read. Nice story, wonderful characters and sizzling hot romance. I couldn't put it down even though sleep called to me and I tell you sleep, in the original sense, wasn't what I wanted at all. ;)
My August Reads
Another month over and I can't say where the days went. It didn't feel like 31 days at all. Got some reading done but not as much as I wished but I blogged more than I wanted, just not here, as it seems. But I'm in a reviewing mood at the moment so I will hopefully get some more done for this blog. We will see. Here is what I read in August:
1. No Greater Pleasure (An Order of Solace Novel #2) by Megan Hart
Again a heartbreaking story. I love her Order of Solace world even if it seems strange and foreign most of the time. I love that her heroines are so dedicated to their mission. The hero in this one was a real piece of work and he never really won my heart but I was fascinated by the story so it was okay.
2. Bed of Roses (Bride Quartet #2) by Nora Roberts
I love Nora Roberts. Her books are always so wonderful. They make me feel good and make me smile so much. It's the easy way the characters interact and how the whole lovestory works out. Wonderful. I loved the hero in this book. Just delicious.
3. Savor the Moment (Bride Quartet #3) by Nora Roberts
I expected much from this book cuz the heroine always was my favorite in the other books. I adore her witty anbd snarky comments but in this book she seemed a bit changed. I did miss that a bit but the story was again good and I can't wait for the the last book. I want to see Parker and that mechanic getting a HEA. That will be so much fun. *g*
4. The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker (Strangely Beautiful #1) by Leanna Renee Hieber (my review
This book totally rocked my world. I had a few reservations before starting but I loved this book to pieces. The characters are wonderful and Ms Hieber's writing is so unique and descriptive. Just amazing. I started book 2 this morning and I'm already hooked again.
I also made a dual review with the wonderful pattepoilue at Book Lovers Inc here.
5. Three Over Par by Cathryn Brunet (my review
This was one of the most emotional erotica I ever read. I love how the story was told, first our of the heroine's memories and later while she experienced it. It made me cry and was sexy as hell. I know I won't lose Ms Brunet from my radar. Highly recommended read.
6. Kiss of the Rose: The Tudor Vampire Chronicles by Kate Pearce (my review)
Wonderful mix of historical and paranormal romance. The world-building is nice and I really like the characters. It has a decent mystery and I loved whole the story unfolded one piece at a time. I know I can't wait to get my hands on book 2 next year.
7. Red Demon (Gods of Midnight #3) by Deidre Knight (my review
I waited so long for this and it made me rediscover why I love Ms Knights' writing so much. She knows how to capture a character- she makes them so real and give them depth. I love how she knits future storylines into the plot and I'm so impatient to read them all. It's like waiting for Xmas. LOL
8. Rampant by Saskia Walker (my review)
This book was a disappointment for me. I can't even say why I just didn't click with me. I hate to DNF a book but I just couldn't bring myself to read one more page. It was a struggle.
9. Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy #1) by Carolyn Crane
I actually finished this one on September 1st but I'm cheating. I loved this book. It so deserves the title. It was just awesome: wonderful story, unbelievable freaky misfit characters, funny and full of WIN. Review to come.
What did you read in August? Anything I shouldn't miss?
