Review: One Four All by Julia Rachel Barrett

Review:
When Julia told me she wrote her first menage I was immediately sure I had to read it. Julia's novels are always hot so I imagined a menage with THREE men would be scorching hot. And I was right.

One Four All feels like a contemporary fantasy novel. It's set in a kind of parallel universe. They seem to have the same technology we have but their religious and moral views are different from ours. Why fantasy? Because we have a princess and a king and those always stand for fantasy in my eyes. Yes I'm full of prejudices. I loved how this world was build up. Not through one big info dump but more through the story-telling We learn everything on the way- with a little tidbit here and there.

The story starts with 3 soldiers on the edge of diving into a war with the neighboring country, Zhinshu. But out of nowhere they get send away on a different mission. They should guard the wife of an "important" politician and they aren't really happy about this development at all. When they arrive at the mansion this changes nearly immediately. They can feel that something is not the way it should be. And when they lay their eyes on Lira for the first time they know that she's not there out of her free will. I loved that Kepp, Red and Wat were all so different in character. They all have their own appeal but I have to admit I had an extra soft spot for Red. He was funny and he won my heart ASAP.

Lira is the heir of the crown of Zhinshu.  She got kidnapped by this crazy politician and he wants her to bear his children. He's not really happy about her being so complicated and denying him but luckily that's the way it works. She can't get pregnant if she's forced to have sex so he has to bring her to do it willingly. Not easy because Lira is a strong woman and even under threats and ransom she won't back down and give herself to him. She suffers through every torture he throws her way but her iron will never diminish. But she is relived when she first meets our three heroes because she can feel deep inside that they will be her rescue. She is a wonderful character, strong and made for being a queen. She knows her way around people and she knows how to defend herself. She's comfortable with herself and it shows in her actions. I really liked that girl.

The sex in this book is hot. Oh my this novel is made for a cold night at home. As you can imagine three guys and a woman is much and I have to admit at some points a bit too much for me. It was always sexy as hell but at some moments I thought it would be better with one guy less. See I'm not that greedy. But I still enjoyed it though.

The story itself is full of twists and turns and definitely has some actions. Onces or twice I sat straight on my couch and just couldn't read fast enough to see what would happen next. I always love how Julia makes her characters interact. It feels like real people would talk to each other and it always reminds me of talking to her. Her books are as she is, you just have to like them.

One Four All is a highly erotic and heartfelt story.The story will draw you in and the characters will make you smile more than once. Recommended for all erotica and menage lovers.

Review: Harvest Moon by Krista D. Ball

Review:

When Krista asked me to review her novella Harvest Moon I was a bit unsure at first. It's not what I usually read but I thought why not and gave it a try. I won't tell you more about the story because this novella only has 35 pages and the description already says everything. 

In Harvest Moon we meet Dancing Cat, the Cursed One. She's a young woman living in band of people who hate her and don't see her as more than dirt. She's lonely and desperate too. For the last two years no one really  touched her or said something nice to her. I really felt for Dancing Cat but at times she also seemed really immature to me. She's always telling that everything is not her fault and never really says why. It felt like her being childish and stubborn. Later in this story the reason is revealed and I felt bad for judging her too quickly. I also would have wished to learn more about her past messenger job. It's said that it's unusual for a woman to do that but there isn't an explanation why Dancing Cat was one. 

Bearclaw is such a nice character. He's pretty mysterious at first but with time we discover what kind of man he is. I have to admit at first I imagined him as an old guy and I was a bit confused when the attraction between these 2 started. 

That brings to one point I didn't like so much in this novella. I found myself often imagining the setting around our heroine and I couldn't. I had a picture of the direct surrounding but the general landscape just eluded me. I like the insight into the Native American way of life  and the characters were nicely developed. The overall story plot was nice, at the end it was a bit too easy for me taste but everything fit together and left me with a satisfied smile on my face. 

All in all a good fiction novella with a touch of romance- you should give it a try.

Review: The Missing by Shiloh Walker

Review:
One thing I learned for sure: Shiloh Walker knows how to throw an emotional punch right into your heart. The Missing will grab your heart from the start and not let go until you read the last page. I think it is an unique talent Mrs. Walker has there. Her books are always full of heartbreak, thrill and they have their share of sexy times, too.

In The Missing we meet Taige in her teenage years. She already suffered a lot and still does most of the time. Not only does she hear and see monstrous things happening but she also has to survive the attention of her extremely religious uncle who believes she is the spawn of Satan. Her life isn't as it should be for a teenage girl. Not much makes her life good. She can escape into the haven of Rose's and Dante's love from time to time but she has to go back to her uncle from hell, too. My heart bled for Taige and as the story went on that only intensified.

We also meet Cullen (anyone else has to think of Twilight every time...). He is a nice boy with rich parents but he still stands with his both feet on the ground. He had a crush on Taige since the first time he saw her and she just won't leave his thought alone. He is positively smitten and searches for a way to get in touch. When he finally earns her attention it is on a rather life threatening situation and since that moment these 2 are glued together. I loved the way their relationship developed. It was so sweet and lovely- I really hoped for a HEA for them. But if you read the Blurb you know that it didn't went this way. When Cullen's mom is murdered every thing changes. He says some really really mean things and behaves like a total jerk. I would have loved to slap him silly for that. No matter what happens you should NEVER do something like this. When someone opens up to you that much you should never use that information to hurt that person. Every thing he said was like a death blow to Taige and I would have never looked at him again after that. But she does (Taige is definitely way nicer than me).

The next part of the book takes place 12 years after that last big fight. Cullen has a daughter and Taige works for the FBI and the police as a psychic bloodhound. Taige can't really cope with this job. It drains her emotionally and every new case kills a bit of herself. She is empty inside and tries to escape her visions and dreams through alcohol. Taige doesn't blame Cullen for that but I totally do.
When Cullen's daughter is kidnapped they decide to work together to get her back and bring justice to the monster who did that to her.

As you can see this book is full of action. Everything happens real fast and sometimes it was just a bit too much for me. Not the amount of the action but I thought it was a bit too much what happened to our couple through the whole book. How can someone survive this? I honestly don't know. I like the pace of the story though. I read the last half of the book in one session- I was tired like hell but I couldn't put it down. The suspense is good but I already knew how the bad guy was in the middle of the book. But I was still under the ban of Shiloh's writing.

I really liked how these 2 rediscovered their love for each other. It was obvious really quick that they are meant for reach other but I can't blame Taige to be a bit cautious after their history together. It was nice to see a couple that really cared for each other and that not everything was focused on the sexual attraction and sex.
They gave each other so much comfort and honest love- just wonderful.

There was another thing I noticed. I recently read No Longer Mine also by Shiloh Walker and The Missing really reminded me of that story. I'm not sure if it's just Mrs. Walker's writing style or the story but both books have a bit of the same feel.

The Missing is a good romantic suspense (with paranormal elements) about love, devotion, trust and faith. If you like your books emotional this is definitely the right book for you.

Review:
I received this book as a review copy from the author and found the name intriguing from the start.
I read the blurb an the first thought was: That's some serious emotional baggage they have to fight in this book. And I have to say that I was rather disappointed in the way it was handled. Emily meets Saber on the Middlemarch ball and like a few pages later she lives with him. That was way too fast for me, especially remembering that she had a cheating asshole husband and serious commitment issues. Which girl would do that even with a sexy as hell kitty shifter? But okay, I can forgive that. The rest of the story had a nice pace and I enjoyed reading it.

I loved the banter between our couple and the chemistry was really hot.  I like that Ms. Munro chose an alpha male as an hero but also made him understanding. He wants to push Emily harder but he realizes that this wouldn't help anyone. He wants her but he doesn't want to force her into something. He needs her to make her own decision so he holds back and doesn't take the possibility he has to make her want him. With only one little bite he could drive her crazy with lust and she would lose any compulsion to leave him ever again. But he sees that this is like cheating and he wants nothing more than to win her heart the hard way.

The side characters, mostly Saber's brothers are hilarious. I loved that they really felt like kitties which wanna "play". *wink* They are a wild bunch of crazy horny boys and I just could feel sorry, or not ;) for the women on their radar.
The plot about the reporter investigating the sightings of large dark cats in the area was really thin and really only a side story after all. Th ebook is focused on the relationship and I didn't minded that at all. 
The next book will be more focused on the reporter and I think perhaps she may find her own little kitty.

All in all this book was a fun read for a cold winter day and I really look forward to read book 2 in the Middlemarch Mates Series, Peeping Tom.

Review:

I'm usually disinclined to read something from an author who is fresh on the market. You never know what awaits you. In this case I was surprised to find a well developed and at times thrilling style of writing which makes up for the overall too
thin storyline.

The main character - one Drew Sovern - appears to be "`only"' a cold blooded killer, who enjoys ultimate control and supremacy over his victims. We enter the story to witness his latest excourse to "feed his powers". After the first chapter you begin to
wonder about the reason behind his actions. Is it because of the mysterious voice in his head that speaks in bold letters and persuades or forces him to do things or rather - as is described in later chapters by means of flashbacks - some primeval urge to give in to rage and hatred like a sith-lord. Perhaps all of us have some kind of inner voice, the only question is whether to ignore and subdue it or to give in to it. Drew is not able to do this filtering and that entitles him to sympathy of a sort, as he is not and would never be able to experience love and friendship.

Later there emerges a seemingly unrelated plot about one Anne-Marie whose husband Andy lies in a coma for three years after a car-crash. While we visit the episodes of Drew the almighty with a depth of grisly details we are left waiting for the one person on this world who would prove the match and salvation for him.
When finally his dream-woman appears on the stage Drew begins to wonder about his previous life and at one point I was even hoping that he would gain deliverance from his inner demons. But not all's well if end's well. The plot takes a sharp u-turn and leaves the reader somewhat surprised at the end...

I enjoyed reading this book at more than one chapter, though the grisly details are sometimes a bit overdone in my opinion. The real horror is in imagining the things that aren't there as well as in the real thing - so fewer details would sometimes be better. Mostly reading this book was well not exactly fun as we're talking mass-murder here but quite enjoyable and Mr. Crull's ability to keep the reader interested speaks for itself.

Review:
I received this book as a review copy from the author and after reading Adored I had high expectations for this one.
This story is not only a simple BDSM book, it is definitily more than just that. It's all about inner insecurities and how to deal with them. 

Eden is a broken woman. She has deep issues with commitment and struggles every second to not fall in love with Rafe. She's afraid of the future and what it might bring. In her thoughts are so many ifs that it makes you really nauseated. She definitely thinks too much but she also doesn't want to let her chance go. It's a dilemma for her but she takes the risk and plays Rafe's game.

Rafe is a very successful and sinfully rich chef and OMG is this guy hawt. He's a Dom from head to toe and lives it wholeheartedly. He knows what he wants and he won't, under any circumstances give up his wishes. He is in charge after all. He knows how to goad Eden into doing as he pleases and he does it in such a charming way. He has many plans for their relationship and doesn't want it to be only an affair. He's a family guy and has every intention to include Eden in his.

OMG this book is spicy to say the least. So happy that I didn't read it in the tram this time. ;) It has the perhaps longest and most torturing sex scene ever. I really thought I would explode. Soooooo good. This scene alone deserves a smut halo.


I know it's not fair but for my taste this book was way too short. There are so many thing I wanted to know that were left out. In my opinion the story should have started a bit more earlier in the relationship between Rafe and Eden. I felt like I missed some of the important stuff. Also the development felt a bit rushed because many things were just left out and referred to as having happened in previous last week. I love to read about each tiny little detail and that would have given this book so much more depth. Don't get me wrong it has some emotional build up but but sadly not enough for my taste.
I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend to everyone who loves his smut very hot!

Review: Captured by Julia Rachel Barrett

Mari wakes naked, on the cold metal floor of a cargo cage. She has been captured by an alien trapper, Ekkatt, a man of Attun-Ra. Her destination is the meat market. Her only hope of survival is to connect with Ekkatt. She never expects to fall in love with him.


Review:

First thing I have to say is: I so love science fiction! I really adore this genre with all those little techy things in the mix with great action and a bit of romance or even erotica. I always enjoy reading about the social problem in foreign societies as a mirror of our own- present or past. In my opinion, we grab these things better when we have a little distance to the ones that are accused. And isn't it a nice way when the accused are sexy big men with long silky blue-black hair and yellow feline eyes? Very nice way in my opinion.

The book starts a bit alarmingly. We wake up together with Mari in a room full of naked woman in cages, not only human ones but many different species, and two hunky men watching over them. First thing I thought was: OMG not the Stockholm syndrome again! But after that I thought: isn't it greedy to have a whole ship of sex-slaves? But as it shows it's not the way my dirty mind pictured it. The women aren't kidnapped to being raped, their even worse future is being sold on the meat market. Yep, you read that right! There are species enjoying nothing more than a human steak. So ick!!!! But okay, we need a bad party in this book. Even worse for me was the attitude of the "smugglers"(who are vegetarians by the way- love that part). They think humans are nothing more than animals without any feelings and higher cognitive functions. You feel charmed already?

So how does it work out that Mari fells in love with one of them? Ekkatt isn't like the most of his species. He sees from the first minute after Mari woke up on the ship that she is different than all the other women he has transported. She's brave and totally able to form coherent sentences and to argument with logic. Why is that so surprisingly for him? Because no women ever before woke up on a transport.

Mari is a real strong heroine. She doesn't cower even in her severe situation and tries to be brave enough to live through it all. Her will to live is unbreakable and she sees her chance in the handsome Ekkatt. She notices that he isn't convinced of her being a stupid animal. So she grabs all her wit and courage to make him free her or at least help her.

Ekkatt's character is unbelievable open for someone being raised in such a society. He is headstrong and has a pure moral attitude towards life no matter the species. As soon as he realizes what the authorities plan to do to Mari he has to do something to prevent this. This decision is a really big one and if someone catches him he will be punished by death. But nothing will sway him from this point.

These two have seriously chemistry going on and I'm again surprised that luckily the aliens fit us anatomically. LOL I enjoyed reading about these two. Their interactions are lovely and they are both so concerned for each others- that just melted my heart. The way Mari showed Ekkatt what kissing is was adorable. I loved that Ms. Barrett also include a language barrier between our couple. The way Mari described some words to Ekkatt was just hilarious.

As you may have noticed, I really liked this book but 2 things were a bit of a letdown for me. First, there was a revelation from Mari's near personal past I found a bit too much. I thought this(Sorry I can't say what) would influence her decisions differently but I can accept that as a minor fault. The bigger problem for me was the ending. It was kind of abrupt and I still had so many open questions. It was a bit unsatisfying to end this book at exactly this point. But I hope we will get a second book in this world that will hopefully answer my questions.

After all I recommend this book to all of you with at least a small interest in science fiction with the right amount of social struggles and a hot romance in the mix.

My December Reads

The last month of the year is always stressy as hell for me. Too many birthdays and Xmas for 31 days. Didn't find as much time for reading as I wanted but on the other hand I had enough time to see family and friends again and I spent real quality time with them. So I squeezed in as much reading time as I could and these are the beauties I read:


1. Holiday Heat by Jaci Burton and Lauren Dane
I won this book in a contest and it is one of the best holiday themed books I ever read. I love the way Lauren Dane writes her characters and Jaci Burton is one of my December discoveries. I had to buy the first book in this series immediately and also added one of Jaci's Books to my tbr.

2. Naked in Death (In Death #1) by J. D. Robb
 I started this one cuz Ms. Sparklybearsy made me. She raved about Roarke and what glorious specimen he is…<please insert any other descriptions of the perfect man here> . LOL How can I say no to that? I simply can't. SO now I have a new addiction called In Death series. Just figures that I fell in love with a series of 30+books already written and at least 2 more each year. I so need more time. But the book is great. It's kind of futuristic science fiction with a great suspense plot and the right amount of smut. And you all know what a sucker I am for scifi! And yes Roarke is one man I would love to have for myself. I enjoyed every page and was completely sucked in by this book. Love it! I can just agree with Ms. Sparklybearsy: Everyone should have read a book of the In Death series.



3. Full Moon Rising (Riley Jenson Guardian #1) by Keri Arthur
I started this book cuz I loved Bound to Shadows, book 8 in this series very much(review here). It was really strange to start at the beginning after already reading book 8. All the things I new about haven't happened yet and I could feel that the characters mostly weren't as 3 dimensional as in BtS. I really enjoyed reading this book. I love Riley cuz she is really kick-ass, knows what she wants and never shies away from grabbing it. I discovered that it seems to be normal that in Ms. Arthurs books are these forced sex scenes that I don't really like- not at all. I enjoyed the plot but thought that it made Riley seem really stupid and a bit too trusting. Already have book 3 here and hopefully will get to it soon.



4. Adored by Tina Donahue
I adored this book. Sorry, couldn't resist. I never heard of Tina before I received this book but she totally blew me away. She made me blush and made me laugh out loud. The characters are really likable and just a bit predictable. A really lovely contemporary romance with enough steam to keep you warm in the cold winter. You can read my full review here.




 
5. Holiday Seduction by Jaci Burton and Lauren Dane
I bought this one after reading Holiday Heat but it is the first book in this series. But no worries both books can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed reading this book too and I loved to see all the people from Holiday Heat again. The communities both author created here are really heart-warming and perfect for the holiday season. A sexy read that will keep you warm. My full review can be found here.





 
6. Savage Possession (Temple of Luna #1) by Moira Rogers
I won this one in a contest a while back on Bree's and Donna's (the 2 authors who are Moira Rogers) blog. I grabbed it now cuz I wanted something hot to keep me warm and that it really did. I found the world it's set in a bit confusing at first but after a few pages I new my way around and fell in love with our characters.  Our couple was so different- Avani seemed so shy and Rais like a raging beast, but they found their way with just a few complications. Nice shifter story with the right amount of alpha male.


7. Glory in Death (In Death #2) by J. D. Robb

See I told you I'm addicted. I had to start another book in this series ASAP and I didn't regret it. To be earnest, I already started book 3. *sheepish smile*
This book was a bit more personal than the first one. The case Eve works on touches her friends and she has to struggle with being a good cop or being a good friend. It's hard to find the middle. Roarke is eve better as in book 1 and their relationship deepens. Love this development. Nice turn at the end of the book! I just can't stop reading these books!




 
8. Riding Wild (Wild Riders #1) by Jaci Burton
This book has all a girl can dream of: Really hot alpha males on Harleys with a bad boy image to suit this ride.

This book is a good hot contemporary romance with a fast paced plot and a really long Harley ride. The characters are likable but a bit chlichee from time to time. You have the rich girl who wants to escape from Daddies plans and falls in the arms of the local bad boy. Than you have these two yeras or so later. She goit her heart broken in the past and now she eye-witnesses him steeling an artifact out of a museum. You see where this is going? It's not like I didn't enjoy this book but it would be perfect if the story were a bit more. Not sure how to say that right. But one thing I know for sure is that I want to read the next book in this series cuz the Wild Riders are a real hot bunch of alpha males.

9. Crux (Southern Arcana #1) by Moira Rogers
OMG I love this book. The story is set in a world like ours plus a little supernatural community with it's own rules and restrictions. We have shifters, casters and empaths, each with their own unique talents. I loved the world, loved the character even more and the story was great! Nice build up of the tension. But I won't say more just now cuz I'm writing the review after I hit publish on this post. Hope I can finish it tonight so the post will be up tomorrow.
