THEY DID IT HOW??? by Tina Donahue & Giveaway

Please welcome the wonderful Tina Donahue here at The Geeky Bookworm today. She has a new release Adored(you can read my review here) and wants to talk a bit about the imaginative world of sexual positions in romance. Enjoy! *wink*
_____

THEY DID IT HOW???

Let’s face it, in a romance – especially an erotic romance – there are only so many positions and backgrounds in which your couple can well, couple, without risking life or limb. They can be alone. In a group. Outside. Inside. In bed. On the kitchen/dining room/conference table. In the car – definitely not a favorite of mine – how in the world do you maneuver in a narrow seat? In the shower. In the tub – another scenario that conjures up bruised knees and elbows. Ow.

So how does a writer bring variety to a finite set of circumstances?

I can’t speak for anyone else, but for me, it’s the sexual tension leading up to The Moment that allows the greatest variety and ultimately the greatest reward when my couples finally do the deed. Where they do it and how they do it is the cherry at the top of a sundae.

For example, in my Ellora’s Cave release Adored, Adam tells Danni to be prepared for anything. He’ll have her where he wants, when he wants. Getting her there is what provides the suspense, heavy-breathing, and fun. To give insight into the plot and an excerpt of what I mean, read on:

adored SYNOPSIS:

Adored – A shameless fantasy come true… When tall, dark and delicious Adam Farrell crosses Danni’s radar at a trade show in Vegas, it’s not lust at first sight. He’s been the star of her wicked fantasies for a while, pleasuring her in acts of domination and submission that leave her breathless. Aching for his masterful touch, believing she’ll never have it, Danni indulges in a public sex act Adam alone witnesses. What follows is a night of wild and unrestrained passion in his powerful arms. It’s only the beginning. An undisclosed business deal has turned Adam from competitor to Danni’s new boss. His hunger for her is absolute and he’ll make her fantasies seem tame as he takes her in ways she never imagined – whenever he wants, wherever he desires. Seduced by Adam’s plan to mix exquisite control with adoration, Danni’s swept into a sensual adventure she can’t resist. Until corporate politics intrude and she learns what Adam’s been hiding to protect her. . .a secret he’s long feared will tear them apart.

EXCERPT

Hand trembling, she opened the folded stationery on top and saw Adam’s distinctive script

For when you’re bad. Now, get some rest, you’ll need it.

For what? And when? She pressed the box to her heart, frustrated and giddy at his game, loving it, yet hoping for relief.

It didn’t come that night or the next day, though FedEx left another package at her apartment door. The small, lightweight box was the length and width of her hand. She jiggled it close to her ear, expecting to hear metallic clinking, the kind a collar and chain would make. Like the one in his fantasy where he led her into the white room full of lusty nobility. Beaming at the memory, she tore open the box and stared at the beige silk ropes inside, tied together in an incomprehensible maze. Clueless as to what they might be or how they should work, she read the accompanying flyer. The apparatus was a karada, a harness used for stimulation bondage. A series of nude photos of a beautifully endowed woman showed Danni how to wear the karada and how it operated, shifting between her legs as she walked and sat, stroking her clit.

She draped it over her nudity, refusing to go further. When she wore the karada, it would be because Adam had put it on her. She wouldn’t fantasize and masturbate while alone either, determined to have him satisfy her.

With her adrenaline level soaring, sleep became a hit-and-miss proposition. Thursday morning, she got to the office, early as always, tired and out of sorts when she saw the Post-It note taped to her door. Apparently, Jim in Marketing had put the new advertising pieces in Woody’s cubicle rather than leaving a few on her desk as Suzy Kline always did.

She put her purse in her bottom desk drawer and headed for Woody’s workstation. As she entered the hall just before the cubicles, she noticed the storeroom door in this section was open and glanced over.
Adam caught her wrist, pulling her inside.

Astonishment made her mute, elation made her want to babble. She held her tongue and stared as Adam leaned against the door, his eyes hooded in the murky light streaming in through the closed blinds. “Drop your trousers.”

Her hands shook as she obeyed his command, unbuttoning and unzipping. In the upstairs office, she heard footfalls crossing the room. Down here, staff would soon fill the cubicles.

As if he considered the same, Adam went to her, holding her bare pussy in his hand, clearly pleased she no longer wore panties. “Did you get my other gifts?” He stroked her clit and pressed his mouth to her neck.

His soapy scent and heated skin eroded her strength. She fisted her fingers in his camel hair jacket, needing it for support. “Yes.” She spoke as softly as he.

“Did you bring them with you?”

“No. I thought you’d want to use them at your place or mine.”

“I want you ready for anything.”

Her will bent to his, subduing her voice even more. “I will be.”

“Bend over the box to your left and lift your ass.”

_____

Many pages and complications led to this scene. I wanted readers to experience the exquisite intensity going on between my characters. I used the same technique to build sexual tension and suspense in my next EC release Deep, Dark, Delicious (pub date to come).

For me, getting my people to the brink makes the resulting ride that much more pleasurable and puts the exclamation point behind the building sighs.

My answer to your first question is not printable here :)
So I'll ask Tina a question instead.

Tina: Do you pattern your characters after real people around you?

Re-posted your contest at: http://contests-freebies.blogspot.com/2009/12/win-close-to-perfect-at-geeky-book-worm.html. Also happen to be folowing your blog :)

Leontine December 11, 2009 at 12:51 PM

I haven't got an example from reading experience in "They Do It How?" But sometimes I struggle with the position 69 as it is described, not that I mind the position but how it is described sometimes make me think; Oh gawd...don't suffocate that man! I can already see the headlines "Death by *insert female genital word*"

I love it when an author takes her couple to the brink but it is a fine line between taking them to the brink and overdoing it. Sometimes authors can frustrate me - in a good way - if they get them over and over to that point and then...nothing can happen for some reason but then when it does happen HALLELUJAH. Or I had it on one or two occasion when it drizzled in to nothing and it felt like a cold shower. Now that really got me frustrated.

Tina, I loved reading your excerpt and Susi, thanks for hosting this author ;)

Tina Donahue December 11, 2009 at 1:05 PM

Hi, Susi - thanks for having me today and for your great review of Adored!

Hey, Cherry and Leontine - thanks for visiting.

Cherry: I really don't pattern my characters around people I know - the people I know aren't that wild and crazy! :)

Leontine: Know what you mean about the difficult of describing certain positions and the frustration of reading a novel where the characters are about to 'do it' and the scene fizzles out. No fun at all.

Blodeuedd December 11, 2009 at 1:16 PM

Oh, a bit of 18 warning here ;)

Struggle, well, I am so silly (will mention it in a review later today) but every time people have sex in the "olden" days I get all conservative and want to yell, no no, you will ruin your chances at marriage..yeah. In modern days I would just root her along.

But ok I do have a they did what, it came all suddenly and that is just what I thought. She took her finger and put it up his ass. And I went all still, that is a big no no for both genders for me.

Bit different when it comes to MM though.

Oh and Mandi over at Smexy had read some book where a man who then was a wolf has sex with a guy, and I am still thinking about that

Tina Donahue December 11, 2009 at 1:29 PM

Hi, Blodeuedd - thanks for visiting and commenting - I hear you about where you don't want anyone's fingers :)

SusiSunshine December 11, 2009 at 1:32 PM

@Cherry Would love to hear the unprintable! LOL

@Leontine I so know what you mean. Yday I read a book and started screaming "Noooo, go away. You're disturbing the good stuff!!!" But character doesn't take pity on me! LOL

@Tina you're very welcome. I so loved the book!

@Blodeuedd Felt so too while reading my first and only historical so far. Strange isn't it? It realy is the setting IMO.
Oh my wolf sex? Huh!

Mandi December 11, 2009 at 1:38 PM

First, I LOVE sexual tension..just needed to say that.

Yes, I read a shifter book where one man was in wolf form..and let me say, apparently the peenie is verra big in wolf form and got stuck in the other man...he had to shift back to a man before he could get it out. I'm not making this up!! So that was a big huh?

One other book, which I really enjoyed, had two peenie (no idea why I am using that word) inside the girl at the same time - but the same hole. Whoa. ;)

So yeah, how did they do that?

SusiSunshine December 11, 2009 at 1:49 PM

@Mandi That is a giant wolf peenie. How big was the wolf? And yes I wondered about the two in one thingie too. Doesn't sound really comfortable but who am I to judge? Not that I tried it.LOL

Tina Donahue December 11, 2009 at 1:51 PM

Whoa, two in one - don't know how that can be pleasurable, but hey, if it works for the heroine... :)

Andrea I December 11, 2009 at 4:00 PM

While I enjoy reading erotica, it's hard for me to discuss it.
Susi,
I just wanted to say I'm glad I found your blog and enjoy the interviews.
Tina,
I've seen several reviews of this book and it's on my TBB list.
Too many good books and not enough money!

Patti (@TheLoveJunkee) December 11, 2009 at 4:12 PM

Love the excerpt! I love sexual tension but hate it when it builds and builds and then they're interrupted or suddenly realize they shouldn't be doing "this"!!

As far as THEY DO IT HOW - I would say in the water (tub, pool, lake)- that peenie (thanks Mandi) is pushing water in...and it's gonna come out later...not very sexy.

Tina Donahue December 11, 2009 at 4:21 PM

Hi, Andrea and Patti - thanks for stopping by and commenting! Good luck in the contest.

~blush~

Two-in-one... That was my book. BETH'S ACCEPTANCE.

Congrats on your new book, Tina. Nice excerpt.

Teal.

Tina Donahue December 11, 2009 at 4:44 PM

Thanks, Teal - can't wait to read your UFs.

Cecile Smutty Hussy December 11, 2009 at 4:53 PM

OH wow OH wow OH wow... On everything above!!! LMBO!!!
First Susi... Awesome job on bringing me a new to me author!!! This on is bring out the super duper hussy in me right now! I love this!!!

I am with Leontine, it is those moments leading up, where I am holding my breath, panting along with them, sweating just as badly as they... then nothing. To have it taken from me because the writing just did not do it for me. But oh man when done right... WOW!

And I am so agreeing with you on the setting. The setting does have something to do with the when and where of having sex and the angst to get there.

Great story telling!!! And Ms. Tina you rock apples at it!!!
It is very nice to meet you!
Hope you guys have a great weekend!
Susi, as soon as I get home, you know the contest will be pimped out at my place! I will come back and leave a link, although I think you know where to find me, lol!!

SusiSunshine December 11, 2009 at 4:55 PM

@Andrea Nice to see you here! And you will love this one.

@Patti OMG now I will always think about that while reading hot tub action. Thanks! *wink*

@Teal That one was kind of a shocker! Made me blush too.LOL

Unknown December 11, 2009 at 5:03 PM

Hi guys *waves* To be honest I'm a BIG newbie to all this and I'm blushing just reading that excerpt. I don't usually read books with a lot of sex as I much prefer the sexual tension. I don't mind sex in a book but I find that I get embarrassed at certain words that are used. Did others feel this at first and then got used to it or am I just not cut out for this kind of writing?

SusiSunshine December 11, 2009 at 5:06 PM

@Cecile Thanks hon! And I know where to find you. ;)

@BCC I read these books for awhile now and I'm still blushing. But that's so me. And I have certain words I don't like to read too(and that are not the dirty ones and I'm glad about that <- see I said it). I think you don't have to worry about that. Everyone has her own preferences.

MrsMixx December 11, 2009 at 5:11 PM

This is an interesting post and an interesting question! I know i read something once that got me ...'How...?What's...?Isn't this supposed to be there?Huh!' but i can't remember exactly what. It was in an Urban Fantasy so i let it pass as 'fantasy' lol I'm loving the comments here.
Now i have this weird visual of the wolf and the man *someone to bleach my brain please?* lol

Tina Donahue December 11, 2009 at 5:19 PM

Hi, Cecile, Book Chick, and Patte - thanks for dropping by.

Nice to meet you, too, Cecile!

I can assure all of you ladies that most of my writing is about the sexual tension - it's the journey to the sex that's the most exciting.

And yes, Book Chick - some of the words do take getting used to. I blushed in the beginning, but I'm getting to be an old hand at it now!

SusiSunshine December 11, 2009 at 5:24 PM

@pattepoilue LOL I have this wolf pic in head now too. And the water leaking. *ick*

And yes I agree with Tina, she has the sexual tension going on all right! *fans herself*

Cathy M December 11, 2009 at 8:17 PM

Hi Tina, loved the excerpt. When sexual chemistry and sexual tension is written well, it can make you sweat a bit, and wish for it to never end.
Keeping my answer pg, lol, I would pick making love on the beach with the waves crashing over you. Really?? The reality is sand goes everywhere, and I just can't see how that wouldn't take you out of the moment.

Tina Donahue December 11, 2009 at 8:33 PM

Hi, Cathy - glad you liked the excerpt - yep, the beach would be a challenge, but you do have that romantic view!

A Buckeye Girl Reads December 11, 2009 at 8:35 PM

I loved the excerpt! I am going to have get this book. :) For the life of me, I can't think of any weird sex moments in books. I know I've read them, just having a blonde moment.

SusiSunshine December 11, 2009 at 8:41 PM

@Cathy I think beach is really uncomfortable but romantic.

@Colette No problem hon. We all have these sometimes!

Tina Donahue December 11, 2009 at 8:44 PM

Hey, Buckeye Girl - glad you liked the excerpt - know what you mean by blonde moment - I have them all the time! :)

Tessie Bradford December 11, 2009 at 11:21 PM

Loved the excerpt, Tina!

I read a sci-fi book where the deed was occurring in a room with no gravity. I found it highly unbelievable when they didn't smash into a wall or start spinning around out of control!

booklover0226 December 11, 2009 at 11:25 PM

Hi, Tina.

What is your opinion on book trailers? Do you think they help with book sales?

Thanks,
Tracey D

Tina Donahue December 12, 2009 at 12:09 AM

Hi, Tessie and Tracey - thanks for stopping by.

Tracey: Yes, I do believe book trailers help sales - I'm going to try one for my next release - DEEP, DARK, DELICIOUS. You have to try everything to reach your audience.

SiNn December 12, 2009 at 12:48 AM

Hi, SiNn - thanks for dropping by - glad you liked the excerpt!

orelukjp0 December 12, 2009 at 1:11 AM

I loved the excerpt. Thank you for sharing.

The strangest thing I read had to do with one girl, five guys and a devise similar to a stock of old. Needless to say, I'm still scratching my head.

Thanks for entering me in your contest.

Tina Donahue December 12, 2009 at 1:27 AM

Hi, orelukjpo - thanks for stopping by!

Smokinhotbooks December 12, 2009 at 2:25 AM

Susi what a great contest. Ok "They Do It How?" moment: I struggle with most is ahem, when the guy, well..., *cough cough* has two joy sticks. I just can't picture it let alone how they both work

Esther December 12, 2009 at 9:41 AM

I'm old enough to have been seriously 'impressed' as a teenager by the goldfish scene in Shirley Conran's Lace (the book not the film) though I did feel kinda sorry for the poor goldfish!

With paranormals/aliens I try not to get to hooked up on the technicalities it can be too distracting :0)

But on the beach or a haystack without a blanket? I am distressed by the thought of all those friction burns in such awkward places!

SusiSunshine December 12, 2009 at 1:16 PM

@Tessie No gravity? OMG I think I would puke.LOL

@booklover0226 Thanks for stopping by!

@SiNn Had that one or two times too.

@orelukjpo Oh my! That's a picture.

@Smokinhotbooks Me too! So true. I haven't read this one and still wonder where these two are positioned.LOL

@Esther A goldfish scene. I'm not sure if I want to know about that one. Haystack is so icky. Never want to try that one!

Lea December 13, 2009 at 9:12 PM

Great post and an excellent excerpt Tina. I've not read your books before and do like erotic romance so I'll definitely put your publications on my list.

I really like the cover art for "Close to Perfect", BTW. :)

My strangest they do it how, in romance eh? lol

Okay, well I guess it took me a long time to get over "the wall" with respect to certain aspects of BDSM and my "squeeometre" still gets going when the H&H start dripping hot candle wax on their bare skin or dragging each other around collared like a dog. However, to each their own right? lol

Thanks for hosting another great contest Susi!

Best
L

SusiSunshine December 14, 2009 at 10:11 AM

@Lea Thanks for stopping by. Like with all things BDSM I think it always depends on the situation set up in the book and how ood it is written. And candle wax is not that hot! LOL
